When I was sitting in the living room with my parents on a cold November evening back in 1994 watching the first ever National Lottery draw, if someone had told me that one day I would be working at Camelot, I would not have believed them. Fast forward 28 years and gosh, here I am driving through the security gates ready to begin my onboarding for the Operational Sales Team.

My first day arrived

Slightly terrified and not really knowing what to expect, I gingerly made my way into reception, where almost immediately my nerves melted away by the very warm welcome I received. I was quickly joined by other new starters and I feel we may have all silently breathed a sigh of relief knowing we were not alone and all starting from scratch that day.

As I expected, the Camelot buildings are much like Dr Who’s T.A.R.D.I.S - bigger on the inside than what you can see from the main road outside. We were given a tour of the building and I suspect even though I have been here a little over a month I could still get lost - but you know what? I don’t worry about that, because one thing I have been made very aware of is how happy everyone is to help each other.

Settling into Camelot life

Onboarding itself was very in depth and informative, however the excellent team still managed to make it fun and interactive in an environment where no question is a silly question - in fact all questions are openly welcome.

I would be lying if I said that meeting the team for the first time did not fill me with dread - what if they didn't like me? What if I said or did something stupid? What if I don't fit in? However, we were greeted with nothing but warm smiles and welcoming gestures. Very quickly I discovered my fears were unwarranted, this isn't just a team of work colleagues, but also friends.

With the excellent training given I was soon making live calls, and I am certain that with every completed call my confidence and sense of personal achievement grows.

What makes Camelot so special

Although this is a place of work, I feel this is not your usual humdrum boring office. Being able to wear (within reason - no swimwear please!) what you like makes for a more relaxed and welcoming environment, not to mention the wonderful events that happen here. I was very lucky to be a part of the Big Eurovision Lunch celebration - a party in the car park. How amazing to have these events occurring! Who would think you could go to the office and have so much fun, while getting the opportunity to get to know people from all departments and job roles.

I have never felt more at home in a working environment, so much so that I have already recommended a career at Camelot to people I know - including family.

Camelot is really a #PlaceToBeYou.
