Our Responsibilities Privacy and data protection

We are only able to operate an effective lottery with the trust of all of our stakeholders. Players trust us to keep the information they give us private, and we take the protection of personal player data extremely seriously.

During the year we reviewed all of our processes, systems and policies to ensure that we comply fully with the UK Data Protection Act, which requires all companies to handle personal information securely, and to respect the privacy of the individuals to whom it relates.

Players provide personal details when registering to play on our website. We use this information to confirm they are eligible to play and to contact them if they win. We only share personal information with other companies with that person's consent, and we employ a range of measures to ensure that the personal information we hold about players is secure, and is only used for the purposes to which they have been agreed. Our privacy policy is available on our website.

This year, we ran a training and awareness programme for all employees to make sure that every piece of personal information we hold about players is protected to the highest standards.

Unfortunately, members of the public continue to receive scam emails claiming to be from The National Lottery. We provide detailed advice on the National Lottery website about common scams and how to identify fraudulent emails and websites.
