Our Responsibilities Our strategy

We want the people who play our games to have fun safely and sustainably. To help make sure of that, we have a consumer protection strategy that is overseen by our Player Protection Panel.

Our strategy is simple: we consider the interests of our players first. We want all players and non-players to be protected from harm, and we pay particular attention to those from vulnerable groups, so that Camelot’s name remains synonymous with responsible play.

Our Player Protection Panel, a cross-functional internal body that reports to our Corporate Responsibility Board, reviewed our strategy this year to ensure that our plans for diversification and growth do not compromise our commitment to responsible and transparent gaming. Our games are known to be low risk – which is how we want them to stay.

As technology changes, so will our games. As a business, we want to keep innovating, providing players with ways to play our games through emerging channels like social media and mobile technology. Ensuring this is managed carefully in order to protect vulnerable groups is essential.

Low risk gaming – the evidence
The Gambling Prevalence Survey conducted by The Gambling Commission in 2010 repeated previous findings that The National Lottery poses the lowest risk of problem gambling compared to all other gambling types. Problem gamblers accounted for just 1.3% of National Lottery draw players, and 2.5% of scratchcard players. This compares, for example, to poker, in which problem gamblers accounted for 12.8% of players.

GamCare, the gambling counselling and advice charity, recorded that 1% of callers to its HelpLine and NetLine services mentioned The National Lottery draw, while 2% referred to scratchcards.
