Our Responsibilities Setting the standards for sustainable lotteries

We want to remain a leader in responsible gaming by listening to the findings of regulators and advisory groups and helping to set the standard for sustainable lotteries internationally.

We set ourselves a number of objectives for this year, and the table below records our progress.

ObjectiveOutcome
Implement a responsible gaming strategy by January 2011Partially achieved – we have agreed a number of long-term priorities in developing our research, game design and consumer support programmes, which we will implement in 2011/12.
Implement a new responsible play training module for contact centres by July 2010Achieved – in partnership with gaming charity GamCare, we introduced a responsible play training module for staff in our contact centre who speak to the public, players and retailers every day. Our focus this year is to ensure awareness levels remain high throughout the year and are not limited to the period following training.
Carry out recommendations from GamCare's auditing report, following its accreditation of our interactive channelsPartially achieved – one of GamCare’s key recommendations was to strengthen our internal and retailer training and awareness programmes. We have now developed a player protection campaign aimed at our sales team as well as retailers, which we will begin in 2011/12.
Implement additional measures to ensure interactive players play only where it is legal to do so Achieved - We already give clear warnings about playing from overseas, but to make it even clearer for our players, we made changes to the terms and conditions of where players can buy their tickets or amend their direct debit accounts.
