Our Responsibilities Charity of the Year
This year, we surveyed staff to gauge support for the idea of a ‘Charity of the Year’, which would give employees who want to fundraise, volunteer or set up a team challenge the opportunity to develop a close relationship with a single organisation.
Each year, The Charity of the Year will be chosen by a vote among staff.
This year, following our employee vote,we forged a charitable partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care, who were the focus of our main charitable donations and activities throughout 2010/11.
To launch our charity partnership we arranged an ‘It’s a Knock Out’ style competition at the company festival in July 2010. More than 100 employees took part, raising over £10,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Employees have so far run shop challenges, run marathons, baked cakes, recycled mobile phones, donated furniture, and climbed mountains to support Camelot’s Charity of the Year 2010/11, raising more than £30,000.
Our partnership will run until October 2011, when we will consider how best to develop our charitable partnership model further.
Next Steps
This year, our new Team Camelot initiative has raised more than £30,000 for our Charity of the Year, Marie Curie Cancer Care, while an increasing number of employees have taken the opportunity to become involved in the Community Investment Framework, with our active support.
Building on this year’s achievements and feedback we are broadening our Community Investment framework for the future. We aim to:
- Form high-value local volunteering partnerships where employees and teams bring their business expertise to the communities in which we are based
Broaden the support we offer to our employees so they can engage more effectively with the causes they care about - Donate more in-kind support in addition to the financial contribution we already make to causes related to our area of business
