Our Responsibilities Our world-leading consumer protection
As well as being one of the world’s most successful lottery operators, Camelot is an established international leader in the field of responsible play. It has played a pioneering role in developing programmes to address the social impacts of gambling worldwide.
By working on a national and international stage, and sharing its experiences, Camelot has set and maintained leading-edge global standards. These are now established as best practice for both the UK gambling sector and worldwide lottery industry.
Camelot occupies high-profile positions within two international lottery bodies, the World Lottery Association (WLA) and the European Lotteries Association (EL). By working in close partnership with both these bodies, we can encourage the worldwide lottery industry to remain focused on responsible gaming, and collectively look to raise standards and strengthen responsible gaming programmes on a global level.
Camelot’s Group CEO, Dianne Thompson, co-chairs the WLA Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, chairs the EL Responsible Gaming Commission and champions European Lottery’s Responsible Gaming Working Group. We also chair the EL Responsible Gaming Working Group and co-chair the WLA CSR Working Group.
Camelot was instrumental in setting up the WLA Responsible Gaming Framework and the EL Responsible Gaming Standard and Certification Framework. These assess performance in the areas of research, employee training, retailer programmes, game design, remote gaming channels, advertising and marketing, treatment referral, player education, stakeholder engagement and reporting.
The WLA Framework has been adopted by 140 member lotteries and it is now mandatory for operators to make a commitment to responsible play and to achieve at least the first level of certification. Camelot has also played a key role in developing the robust governance structures around the Framework, which will enable this requirement to be put into practice globally.
Camelot has been awarded the highest level of accreditation by the WLA Responsible Gaming Framework – Level 4 – and all our responsible play initiatives have been rigorously audited to ensure that they are aligned with the EL Responsible Gaming standard.
This is all testament to our continuing commitment to responsible gaming, and the implementation of world-class measures for preventing excessive and underage play.
