As operator of The National Lottery, our overarching objective is to maximise returns to National Lottery Good Causes through selling tickets in an efficient and socially-responsible way. The results speak for themselves. Since launch, The National Lottery has raised over £31 billion for these Good Causes, funding more than 420,000 individual awards throughout the UK – an average of 135 lottery grants for every UK postcode district.

To ensure that we maintain and further enhance the level of public trust in The National Lottery, corporate responsibility lies at the heart of everything we do and is embedded into every level of our business. The aim of our approach to corporate responsibility is simple – we want to make a positive difference to all of our stakeholders.
We also strive to achieve growth in a responsible way. Our overriding strategy is to encourage lots of people to play but to each spend relatively small amounts. As part of this, we focus on consumer protection, including responsible gaming.
In addition, we build programmes to:
- Support the needs and expectations of the communities where we work and live
- Support the community engagement aspirations of our employees
- Reduce the impact we have on the environment
