It's a pretty sweet gig working in the finance team at Camelot, especially when the annual bake-off rolls around. It's a great opportunity for people to unleash their creative side by making some tasty cakes and crafting some very imaginative decorations and toppings. 2017's winner was Claire, who before the bake-off was not a regular baker, in fact, she claims she had never baked anything before! After getting through the first stage with her colourful Unicorn Layer cake, she went on to create a mouthwatering Hari-Bo Anti-Gravity cake which was a sight to behold. It was her delicious Chocolate and Strawberry Doughnut Drip cake that won her first place overall and she has very kindly shared the recipe here for you to try. If you do end up giving this a go and you'd like us to taste test, we are more than happy to oblige.
This is what Claire had to say about her baking triumph:
"Before entering bake-off, I had never baked a cake in my life. I am so glad that I decided to take part. Throughout the competition, I learned to love baking cakes as much as I do eating them! I also picked up a few skills along the way and gained myself a new hobby. Monday morning diets went out the window with an abundance of sweet treats at 10am, where each round of bakers presented their cakes for judging by a tough panel of critic colleagues. Cakes are scored on taste, appearance, texture and originality. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for this year's competition!"
Round one – Unicorn Layer Cake
Semi-final - Hari-Bo Anti-Gravity cake
Final - Chocolate and Strawberry Doughnut Drip Cake
