Using this report

This report is designed to give you a detailed view of how Camelot manages its business responsibly. We have structured it so that it's easy for you to get a complete overview of our performance in the period from 1 April 2006, to 31 March 2007.

You can either follow the report through from start to finish, or you can use the navigation bar to the left to choose areas of particular interest to you. To highlight the areas we treat as priorities we have included them as four separate sections on this site. They are: Responsible play, Values & Culture, Business relationships and Environmental impact.

Section by section

Review 07/08

This section contains a review of the year by our CEO, Dianne Thompson. It summarises the main achievements and challenges over the year and also includes a description of our bid for a third Licence to run The National Lottery.

Camelot & responsibility

This section provides you with a detailed description of Camelot's business and our remit and role in running The National Lottery. It explains how money for Good Causes is raised and distributed and our special role in raising money for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. It defines our main corporate responsibility (CR) priorities and sets out our approach to governance and risk management. It also explains the role of our Corporate Responsibility Board and our Advisory Panel for Corporate Responsibility. In addition, it tells you how we have responded to recommendations from our assurance provider, The Reassurance Network, on how to improve our management of CR.

Stakeholder engagement

In this section we explain the variety of stakeholder consultation mechanisms we use and how stakeholders have influenced our policies, practices and decisions over the year.

Responsible play

This section describes how we are trying to make sure we raise the maximum amount of money for Good Causes in a socially responsible way. It describes our determination to act with integrity at all times and to protect vulnerable players, while working hard to develop new games and channels that encourage millions of people to spend small amounts on lottery products. You can also find information here on our efforts to become a leader in protecting online players and our work at an international level to help set high standards for the lottery sector worldwide.

Values & Culture

This section talks about the high performance culture we are trying to create within Camelot. It discusses the challenges we face in trying to attract and retain high calibre staff at a time when a decision on our third Licence is pending. And it describes the successes we have had as an employer - not least being ranked 13th in the 'Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For' survey. This section also explains our links with the Camelot Foundation and how we use our community investment programme to motivate staff.

Business relationships

This section deals with the relationships Camelot has with retailers, suppliers and shareholders and our aim to work in close partnership with them to fulfil our role of raising the most we can for Good Causes in a socially responsible way. It explains how we communicate with these important partners, seek to understand their challenges and work together to achieve high standards of corporate responsibility.

Environmental impact

This section details our environmental impacts and how well we managed them over the year. It also highlights some of our major achievements, not least our success in cutting our CO2 emissions twice as fast as expected and becoming the first major lottery operator in the world to go carbon neutral.

Performance overview

This section provides an overview of the key performance indicators we use to improve our performance, our progress in meeting the next step commitments we set for ourselves last year and the targets we have for the current year. It also includes a statement by The Reassurance Network, our assurance provider, and, for the first time, a statement by our Advisory Panel on Corporate Responsibility.
