Camelot & Corporate Responsibility

Our company values and culture provide the foundation for our commitment to corporate responsibility. Putting our values into practice, upholding our commitment to corporate responsibility and – above all – maintaining public trust is of utmost importance to operate The National Lottery with integrity.

This can only be done through well-established governance structures and by putting stakeholder engagement at the heart of what we do to address social and environmental impacts. These are defined through our commitment to responsible play and our work to further reducing our environmental footprint.

Responsible play is our most important priority for maintaining players’ trust in The National Lottery in order to protect returns to Good Causes. But we also believe that it is vital to reduce our environmental footprint so that the environmental benefits brought by Good Cause funding should not be compromised by the process of raising that money.

We work closely with our stakeholders to identify the issues which are most important to them and to us. To do this we use a wide range of different approaches, including surveys, workshops, one-to-one meetings and focus groups. Read more about how we engage with stakeholders.

Responsible play – Our aim is to maximise returns to Good Causes in a socially responsible way. We need to win the trust of our players and of society at large in order to raise as much for Good Causes as possible. The National Lottery exists for the benefit of the UK, so it is vital that the civic and social regeneration funded by the Good Causes is not compromised by any lack of integrity in our operations. Therefore our priority – during this Licence and in the third Licence beginning in February 2009 – is to develop new games and new ways to play that encourage millions of players to spend small amounts. We strive to protect vulnerable players and prevent underage play, to raise awareness of problem gaming and to support our winners through what can be a life-changing experience.

Environmental impact – We are committed to careful environmental management. We may be a relatively small, specialist company, but we still think we have a vital part to play in tackling climate change and reducing waste. We are committed to ensuring that the environmental impact of the lottery is assessed and reduced at every possible level – and we will continue that commitment into the next Licence period.
