Our people & communities

Valuing performance

We have improved schemes to recognise and reward the good work people in Camelot are doing.

Engaging with employees

We believe it's important to keep our staff informed of what's going on in the business and find out what they think.

Well being & diversity

We made improvements in the way we manage Occupational Health and Safety and launched a new Ill Health Absence Management Policy in December to help deal with our absence levels. We have also changed the way we approach diversity.

Doing our bit

More and more Camelot employees are taking part in community initiatives, volunteering time or giving to charities.

We aim to be one of the best companies to work for in the UK by creating an environment that rewards people for giving their best. Our challenge is motivating employees to feel proud to work for Camelot, in particular as we draw towards the end of our current licence. We also invest significant amounts in community projects and charities, and encourage employees to volunteer in their local communities.

As a company licenced to operate for a set period of time, we face some specific challenges in managing the careers and livelihoods of Camelot employees. We are therefore pleased that we continue to be rated highly as an employer. In the 2006 Sunday Times list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For we were ranked 43rd, a leap of 33 places on last year's position.

The survey showed that most people who work for us think Camelot makes a positive difference to the world. They also enjoy their work and like the people with which they work. Other factors singled out include faith in our Chief Executive Dianne Thompson, belief in our values and investment in training and generous maternity/paternity benefits.

The Sunday Times' results echo the findings of our own staff survey where we also increased our score and nearly hit our target, with 70% of staff agreeing that Camelot is one of the best companies they've worked for.
